Situated at the intersection of Rivet and Hyacinth Street, the new NorthStar Early Education Academy is a purpose-built, 19,000 square-foot facility designed to serve the evolving needs of early childhood education. Constructed by Dellbrook|JKS for NorthStar Learning Centers, the two-story building includes ten classrooms, a community room, a gross motor skills space, a partial basement, as well as administrative offices and conference rooms.
The building’s exterior is built for long-term durability with Hunter Panel Sheathing, Hardie/Cembrit Fiber Cement Siding, and Universal Series 600 AL windows—all rated for hurricane impact resistance. Internally, the center is outfitted with new finishes and advanced MEPFP systems to support a safe, modern, and welcoming learning environment.
Integration of PriWatt® Switchable Technology
To enhance privacy and flexibility, PriWatt® Switchable Glass was installed throughout the facility. Our certified Boston team completed the installation, integrating PriWatt® panels into office partitions and classroom sections.
At the touch of a button, the glass changes from clear to frosted. This provides instant privacy without blocking light, making it ideal for educational spaces that need to adapt quickly throughout the day.
Benefits for Educational Environments
Child-Centered Privacy
PriWatt® gives educators quick control over visibility. It creates a private space for naps, individual learning, and quiet time. This helps children feel safe and supported.
Built-In Safety
PriWatt® eliminates the need for curtains or blinds, which often collect dust or present hazards. Its laminated structure is strong and can be upgraded to impact-resistant levels.
Light and Comfort
The switchable glass maintains access to natural light while reducing glare. This results in fewer distractions and helps maintain focus—especially important for children with sensory sensitivities.
Low Maintenance
Since PriWatt® has no moving parts or fabric components, it’s easy to clean and disinfect. This makes it a practical choice for environments that prioritize hygiene.
Building with Vision
The integration of PriWatt® Switchable Glass at the NorthStar Early Education Academy highlights a new direction in educational design—where privacy, protection, and comfort are built into the architecture itself. This project stands as a model for future-focused institutions seeking to elevate both function and experience in their learning spaces.
